TRUSTING ONES
A barren field alight with trusted lies.
A fire within the ice, just behind the eyes.
Betrayal at the start, denial at the end.
Bruised and confused, life and love spent.
Trees don't speak anymore. It's all a dark nightmare.
Dreamless, lightless anger. A painful stinging stare.
To look upon the death of the most wondrous life.
To know that it was done with a long and unseen knife.
Who could wield that blade? Who could cause such pain?
Only a trusted one of few with nothing left to gain.
Dreams that don't exist, nothing left to lose.
Only the graveyard stone and only the hangman's noose.
Oh, pity the trusting ones and scourge the ones they trust.
All the means to an end, for money or blood they lust.
Someone must forgive their sins. I, for one, will not.
For I have done the battle, a hard loss but hard fought.
Ask me not for trust, for that is long since dead.
And all that I can hear are the bells inside my head.
"A warning!" They cry out. "A dream has been denied."
And why is all this happening? A trusted one has lied.
